  1. Click the Windows Start menu and type File Explorer in the search field.

Give a new name to the QBPOS Shell folder:

  1. Move to C:\Users\{User logged on}\AppData\Local\Intuit.
  2. Locate and open the QBPOS shell folder with the latest modified date.
  3. Right-click the user.config file and select the Rename option.
  4. Change the file name to user.configold and then close the window.
  5. Close and open QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale.

Solution 2. Create a new user with admin rights for Windows

First, create a local user account:

  1. Click the Windows Start button on your desktop and then click the Settings icon.
  2. Choose Accounts and then the Family & other users (Other users) option.
  3. Click Add someone else to this PC, and then the I don’t have this person’s sign-in information option.
  4. Move to the next page and click Add a user without a Microsoft account.
  5. Enter login credentials and click Next.

Next, change local user to admin:

  1. Click the Start menu, then the Settings icon, and choose Accounts.
  2. Choose Family & other users (Other users).
  3. Choose the username you created and select Change account type.
  4. Select Administrator under the account type and click OK.
  5. Sign in to Windows as admin and open QuickBooks Point of Sale.
